Taiwan’s National Tsing Hua University has signed an agreement with US-based NuCube Energy to explore next-generation nuclear technology. The university said it plans to replace a research reactor that has been operating for more than 65 years with a new nuclear microreactor. The facility would be used for research and medical applications rather than electricity generation. The move comes as President Lai Ching-te has signaled openness to restarting Taiwan’s nuclear power plants. Tsing Hua University's new microreactor could go online by 2031, but the sale still needs to pass regulatory approval in the US.
