From Rail Lines to Lines of Verse: The Legacy of Taiwan's 'Railway Poet'
A new exhibition at the National Railway Museum in Taipei honors the late "Railway Poet" Chin Lien, a full-time rail worker who won several national poetry awards before his death in 2013. Featuring over 1,300 artifacts donated by Chin's family, the exhibit displays photographs, old telegraphic equipment and poems written in Japanese and Mandarin. Chin's work reflects Taiwan's historic language transition from the Japanese colonial era to Nationalist Kuomintang rule. Open until December, the exhibition captures a generation's shared memories, showing how diligence allowed an uneducated worker to transform his daily environment into profound literature.
