False Claims Over Taipei Tree Removals Fuel Online Conspiracy Theories
Routine tree removals in Taipei have become the focus of viral conspiracy theories claiming they are linked to a potential Chinese military operation. The rumors allege that removing trees near the Presidential Office could make it easier for Chinese drones or helicopters to operate during a future attack. Taipei City officials have dismissed the claims, saying the vast majority of the trees were removed because they were dead, diseased or posed safety risks, and noted that the city has planted far more trees than it has cut down.
