20-year-old Taiwanese student Alan Chang has won silver in the off-string category at the 2026 World Yo-Yo Contest in Japan. Former president Tsai Ing-wen took to social media to congratulate him.

A Taiwanese yo-yo competitor has won silver at the 2026 World Yo-Yo Contest.

20-year-old Alan Chang placed second in the off-string category at the finals in Himeji, Japan, the highest placement ever in that group for a Taiwanese yo-yoer. Japan’s Hashimoto Koyo won gold. Chang pulled off dozens of tricks where one or two yo-yos leave the string entirely. Former Taiwan president Tsai Ing-wen took to social media to congratulate Chang, who studies medical science at National Taiwan University.
