Hsu Wen-erh Becomes First Taiwanese To Solo Swim UK's North Channel

Battling jellyfish stings, hypothermia and a potentially lethal lung condition, long-distance swimmer Hsu Wen-erh has become the first Taiwanese to solo swim the North Channel between Northern Ireland and Scotland, crossing the 34.5-kilometer strait in 12 hours, 46 minutes and 40 seconds. As Hsu bids to complete the Oceans Seven challenge of seven marathon open-water swims in different parts of the world, Hsu plans to take on New Zealand's Cook Strait in December.

Long-distance swimmer Hsu Wen-erh has become the first Taiwanese to complete a solo swim across the North Channel between Northern Ireland and Scotland.

 

Hsu finished the 34.5-kilometer crossing in 12 hours 47 minutes. During her swim, she battled painful jellyfish stings and developed a potentially life-threatening lung condition. Since 2023, Hsu has been taking on the Oceans Seven, consisting of seven long-distance open-water swims around the world. She plans to tackle New Zealand's Cook Strait this December.
