Premier Pledges Tougher Food Safety Rules After Cooking Oil Scandal
Taiwan Premier Cho Jung-tai has told the health ministry to publish proposed amendments to food safety laws amid an ongoing investigation into a contaminated cooking oil scandal. These could include strengthened controls on raw materials, manufacturing processes, quality checks and information sharing. Authorities are investigating how carcinogen-tainted soybean oil entered the food supply chain, affecting hundreds of businesses and restaurants, including Din Tai Fung.
