Eswatini’s Deputy Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla Visits Taiwan
REPORTER:
Eswatini’s Deputy Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla is in Taiwan and has met with President Lai Ching-te.
Lai Ching-te (TAIWAN PRESIDENT):
Dladla was not just [Eswatini's] first female foreign minister. She is also the second female deputy prime minister. She has long worked for gender equality and improving social welfare. Her passion for public service is a conduit for Taiwan and Eswatini to cooperate further on advancing social welfare.
Dladla has come for the launch of Taiwan's World Alliance for Disaster Management, President Lai’s plan for international cooperation on disaster response. It’s the deputy prime minister’s third visit to Taiwan this year. She came in April after Lai had to cancel a planned visit to Eswatini when countries along his flight path wouldn't let his jet through their airspace. Dladla then helped arrange for Lai to visit her country in May. Eswatini is one of Taiwan's 12 remaining diplomatic allies and the only one in Africa.
