Typhoon Bavi’s rain bands officially hit Taiwan early Saturday morning, triggering full work and class suspensions across 20 cities and counties. Nearly 9,000 residents in vulnerable areas have been evacuated nationwide, including low-lying communities in Yilan County facing high flood risks. While early preventative measures have successfully kept major structural damage down to a minimum, local officials are warning residents to stay alert as heavy rainfall continues to batter northern mountain ranges and coastal areas.
