Heavy Rains Cause Losses for Farmers in Southern Taiwan

Days of torrential rain have caused heavy losses for farmers across southern Taiwan, with the Ministry of Agriculture estimating total damages at more than US$320,000. Around 70 percent of the losses were concentrated around Tainan, which saw heavy flooding that hit watermelon crops especially hard. Meteorologists warn that an approaching typhoon could bring more wet weather later this week.
