Heavy Rain Triggers Flooding Across Southern Taiwan

Heavy rainfall has caused flooding across southern Taiwan, with parts of Tainan, Kaohsiung and Pingtung County seeing knee-high water on Saturday. While floodwaters receded in many areas, transportation was disrupted and some local governments suspended work and classes.

Heavy Rain Causes Flooding in Southern Taiwan

Heavy rains caused flooding in parts of Southern Taiwan as officials warn it may get worse over the coming days.

Liu Pei-teng (CENTRAL WEATHER ADMINISTRATION):  
The rainfall in this area could reach 200 millimeters or more with the possibility of torrential rain in the eastern half of the island.

REPORTER:  
Residents across Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung County had to deal with knee-high water in some areas. While most flood waters receded later in the day, some public transportation services were affected. Local governments also suspended work and classes in some districts. The Central Weather Administration predicts more rainfall in the region until Tuesday.
