A barrier lake has formed in Nantou in central Taiwan after recent heavy rain triggered a landslide.
The lake is upstream of the popular Ruilong Waterfall and holds about 100,000 metric tons of water. Local authorities say the situation is stable and the risk of collapse is low. They say the lake is already draining naturally. As a precaution, one nearby household was put on an alert for evacuation. In September last year, 19 people were killed when a barrier lake burst its banks and flooded the town of Guangfu in eastern Taiwan.
