Nvidia is investing US$3.5 billion in Taiwanese chip designer MediaTek, deepening their partnership in AI chips. The investment will give MediaTek greater access to Nvidia's technology, allowing the company to design AI chips custom-built to connect with Nvidia-based data centers, saving customers time and engineering costs. Nvidia says it is investing 3.5 billion US dollars in Taiwanese chip designer MediaTek and expanding their partnership in AI chips.

The investment will boost MediaTek's access to Nvidia technology. It lets the Taiwanese firm offer AI chips custom-made to connect to Nvidia-based data centers. Not having to build that connection from scratch will save customers time and engineering costs. AI labs and hyperscalers are opting for custom chips, called ASICs, to control costs and avoid vendor lock-in.
