Taiwan says new US tariffs on a key raw material used in semiconductors and solar products will have limited impact.
US President Donald Trump has ordered a 15 percent tariff on polysilicon and related products, on top of existing levies. But the rate for Taiwan, along with Japan, South Korea and the EU, is capped at 15 percent. About 25 percent of Taiwan's polysilicon exports go to the US. The government says the move aims to reshape US solar and semiconductor supply chains and reduce reliance on China. It says Taiwanese semiconductor firms investing in the US can seek tariff exemptions under a bilateral investment MOU.
