The Challenges of Being an Environmental Journalist - The Ripple Effect Podcast Ep2
In today’s world, where people are stimulated by an overwhelming amount of information, the role of a journalist and official media outlets have become especially difficult. What’s even more challenging is informing and educating the public on issues that matter. One example is that relating to our natural environment. What are ways to engage with audiences in this fast-paced world? Why should people care about environmental issues, let alone those happening in Taiwan? Using Taiwan’s example of sustainable living and response to climate change as case studies, journalists Sally Jensen and Kwanying Liu chat with host Dr. Aziz Mulla about systemic issues that make climate change one of the most pivotal issues, as well as what it’s like to research and report on issues that seem to forecast a daunting future. The Ripple Effect Podcast is a brand-new podcast series that tackles all the big topics of today. From climate change to the fishing industry, and from the downsides of tourism to the importance of conservation; these topics are often hard to break down yet too important to ignore. Indeed, the ripple effect of something like educating the public through mass media is sizeable to say the least. We hope that each episode provides new insights on issues we may all be tired of hearing about. But it is through deeper conversations with the right people that we may move a step forward – we hope to create positive ripple effects with this series. Enjoy!
