President Lee Teng-hui Memorial Concert - An NSO Crossover Event
2024 The Voices of Taiwan III The President Lee Teng-hui Memorial Concert is a crossover event held in conjunction with Taiwan’s National Symphony Orchestra to commemorate the late President’s outstanding contributions to Taiwanese culture and the arts. Taiwan’s first directly elected president was a connoisseur of classical music who believed that all people should be free to enjoy high quality music and performance. This concert series continues as a way to remember and pay our respects to his legacy. Taiwanese composer Gordon Shi-Wen Chin was commissioned to create a world-premiere Symphony No. 5 as a posthumous homage to ‘Mr. Democracy’, inspired his own speeches and writings on the “New Taiwanese”. These individuals would not only assert their Taiwanese identity, but also undergo a deep inner renewal, striving to transform their values with a new sense of life’s purpose.
