When temperatures drop, farmers start planting 'cold dew wheat' along with other cold-resistant crops. This period is also when mitten crabs fill Taiwanese dinner tables. Originally imported from China, mitten crabs are now locally raised. This is also the best season in Taiwan to plant legumes, from potatoes to peanuts.
