Saving Endangered Porpoises
Finless porpoises, aptly named as they lack the dorsal fin possessed by other porpoises, move swiftly through the water without creating a wake. Taiwan's porpoises usually feed in shallow waters, meaning they often encounter human activity. This does not often end well for the porpoises. Their numbers have been declining for the past two decades, and some experts hope the dead porpoises washing up on Taiwan's beaches will lead to answers on how to protect and grow their population.
