Ocean: The Boat of Orchid Island
In 2011, the Tao, an Austronesian ethnic group native to Taiwan's Orchid Island, honored the ancient maritime traditions that allowed for their ancestors' rapid expansion into the islands of the Indo-Pacific and beyond. They built an 18-person boat and rowed for 18 days to visit their neighbors on the south and west coasts of Taiwan. Their journey is an example of retaining the wisdom and methods of our ancestors who lived in harmony with nature and the ocean.
