One poisonous snake bite could cost people their lives. Thanks to the work of the late doctor of medicine Lee Chen-yuan, the survival rate of snakebite victims has significantly increased. Lee successfully separated the deadly α-type and β-type bungarotoxins of the venom of Bungarus multicinctus in 1963 with the help of chemist Chang Chuan-chung. His outstanding work earned him the prestigious Redi Award from the International Society on Toxinology. Over the years, Lee published over a hundred research papers. He not only became a leader of pharmacology in Taiwan, but also an international authority in the field of venom snake research.
