My Scientist Friend: Taiwan’s Shero Chemist - Wang Yu
Wang is the first female dean at National Taiwan University’s College of Science, the first female director of the National Science Council’s Natural Sciences Center, and the first female scientist to serve as the Vice President of Academia Sinica, Taiwan’s national research institute. Wang’s dedication and credentials is a testimony that female scientists are good as or even better than male scientists. Wang Yu has had a passion in math and science since an early age. She was first admitted to the College of Pharmacy during her university entrance examination. With her father’s support who was a legislator at the time, she later emersed into the world of chemistry. She specializes in crystallography and inorganic chemistry, using precise X-ray diffraction and high-level electronic structures to analyze the distribution and shape of electrons in molecules. In addition to training next generation scientists, she also encourages female students to reach the sky by getting out of their comfort zone in fine arts to explore hard science.
