Paris Olympics 2024: Brooch Design - Curating the Fashions of Chinese Taipei Ep1
The opening ceremony of the Olympic Games has always been a platform to showcase the cultural aesthetics behind sports fashion around the world. The 2024 Olympics in the fashion capital of Paris are no exception. The uniforms for Taiwan's national team will once again be designed by Justin Chou, the head designer of JUST IN XX, following the highly acclaimed uniforms he created for the Tokyo Olympics. Justin is an expert in interdisciplinary co-creation who took a curatorial approach to these new uniforms by inviting a dream team of individuals who have deep roots in Taiwan while also excelling in international endeavors. This includes twined flower craftswoman, Peggy Lin. Though small, the brooch design on this year's uniform makes a lasting impact. The use of Chunzai flowers symbolizes Peggy and Justin's wish for abundance for the athletes. Likewise, the use of recycled materials to create a plum flower and rapeseed blossom design--both flowers commonly found on the island--fully embodies the beauty of Taiwan. Together, Peggy and Justin have added a minute but crucial detail for the Olympics opening ceremony that embodies the spirit of culture, art, craftsmanship, and sustainability in hopes of a fashionable cultural exchange and exciting diplomatic mission on the world stage.
