The US and European Union have expressed concerns over Pakistan’s brief closure of its airspace to Taiwanese airlines. A US State Department spokesperson said the move was part of Beijing’s escalating campaign to isolate Taiwan and intimidate international partners. An EU spokesperson told Taiwan’s Central News Agency that air transport should remain free from political disruption. Earlier in the week, Pakistan’s defense minister confirmed the restriction was imposed in support of Beijing’s “one China” stance. The airspace closure affected Taiwanese carriers but was reversed just hours after it was announced.
