Countries across the Pacific voiced concern after China test-fired a submarine-launched ballistic missile. Chinese state media reported that a PLA Navy nuclear submarine launched a missile carrying a dummy warhead on Monday. It splashed down into international waters in the Pacific Ocean. Japan, Australia and New Zealand all criticized the move. Japan said Chinese authorities had warned that debris from the missile could fall within its exclusive economic zone.
