Tokyo says a Chinese destroyer held live-fire drills within what Japan claims as its exclusive economic zone early Sunday.
Japan’s self-defense force says the destroyer was operating off Japan’s Okinotorishima, alongside two other Chinese naval vessels and one Russian navy ship. This is the first time Japan has disclosed Chinese live-fire drills within what it claims as its economic waters. Though the drills did not break international rules, Tokyo says it closely monitored the ships.
