In an exclusive, US news outlet Bloomberg says Pakistan has barred Taiwanese carriers from its airspace in support of Beijing’s “one China” stance. Pakistan’s defense minister reportedly confirmed the restriction, saying only mainland Chinese airlines are allowed to fly over the country. Bloomberg reports this is the first time any country has taken such action against Taiwanese carriers. Update: Taiwan’s foreign ministry has strongly condemned Pakistan for siding with China in undermining Taiwan’s sovereignty and weaponizing airspace. It says it will coordinate with transport authorities while respecting airlines’ decisions on flight routes based on safety, travel time and costs.
