Bark Paper Treasures
REPORTER:
A Japanese scholar has donated a collection of bark paper artifacts to Taiwan’s National Museum of Prehistory.
Professor Sakamoto Isamu said the US and China were also keen to get his collection, but he chose Taiwan, where he began his research decades ago. The artifacts include tools and a 15th-century bark paper book, along with other pieces collected from all over the world.
Sakamoto Isamu (PROFESSOR OF PAPER PRESERVATION):
Despite advice to choose another country over political and China-related issues, on a spiritual level I wanted them to return here.
The museum plans to study the collection before putting it on display.
