Former Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je Sentenced 17 Years in Corruption, Bribery Trial
A Taipei district judge handed former city mayor Ko Wen-je a 17-year sentence for corruption and bribery on Thursday. Ko was found guilty of accepting bribes for a real estate project while in office, and for embezzling political funds during his run for president in 2024 under the Taiwan People's Party. Ko may appeal the verdict, or else the sentence could mark the end of his political career.
