Taipei Condemns New Chinese Coast Guard Patrol in Eastern Waters

Taiwan has condemned China for announcing a new coast guard patrol in its eastern waters, saying Beijing has no jurisdiction there. Taipei says the patrol is an unlawful expansion of power that violates international law and destabilizes the region.

China says it will launch a new coast guard patrol in the waters east of Taiwan. Taiwan is condemning the move.

 

Beijing views Taiwan as its territory and says it will continue law enforcement patrols to safeguard China’s sovereignty and maritime rights.

 

Taiwan says the patrol is an unlawful expansion of power that violates international law and destabilizes the region. It says Beijing has no sovereignty in the waters east of Taiwan and no authority to conduct law enforcement operations there.

 

Taiwan’s coast guard says it has deployed ships to track the movements of two Chinese coast guard vessels east of Taiwan but outside of restricted waters.
