REPORTER:
An F-16 fighter jet has hit a streetlight during a training drill in eastern Taiwan.
The accident occurred during a combat readiness runway landing drill at Hualien Air Base. The F-16 came in too low on approach, causing its landing gear to strike a streetlight cover.
The jet landed safely with no injuries, but some nearby civilian vehicles were damaged. Taiwan’s Air Force says a special task force will investigate.
This is the third accident involving air force planes this year. Earlier this month, a trainer aircraft crashed, killing two pilots. And in January, an F-16 pilot went missing in Taiwan’s eastern waters.
