Taiwan Military Reviews Security Procedures After Officer Sells Secrets

Another Taiwanese military officer has been indicted for sharing sensitive military information with China.
Prosecutors say Captain You was having money problems and was enticed into trading secrets for 46 hundred US dollars in cryptocurrency.
He now faces charges under Taiwan’s anti-corruption, national security, and the criminal laws.
Taiwanese military personnel have repeatedly leaked classified information to China, especially highly sensitive intelligence.
How can the US and other international partners trust Taiwan under these circumstances? And how would they be willing to provide us with more advanced and sophisticated weapon systems?

Authorities say the officer began spying in early 2022 — first photographing colleagues’ signatures then sensitive documents later as captain. He later passed on contact details of active-duty officers.
If found guilty, You could face jail time.
But beyond the charges themselves, the case is raising questions about how he was able to take those photos in the first place.
For real though — his camera shouldn’t have even worked. Photography is banned inside the base. So how was he still able to take pictures? That’s something investigators need to look into.

The military holds hundreds of classified manuals — from operating procedures to advanced weapons systems worth millions of dollars. Yet leaks like this, sold for just a few hundred dollars, pose an immediate threat to Taiwan’s national security.
