Taiwan plans to put body temperature checks and other health checks in place at ports and airports in reaction to fears of a plague death in Russia last week. Russian officials say a staff member at a plague research institute in Siberia died of pneumonia and have instituted quarantines and medical supervision to contain the potential spread of disease. So far, the WHO says the health risk to the general public is low. But Taiwan has reached out to Russian health authorities and the WHO for more information. Taiwan has not reported a case of plague since 1953.
