The average life expectancy in Taiwan rose to more than 81 years in 2025, recovering from a low of just under 80 in 2022 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Women lived for 84 years on average while men averaged nearly 78 years. By region, life expectancy was highest in the capital Taipei while the rural eastern county of Taitung had the lowest.

Government data shows life expectancy rising to more than 81 years in 2025, recovering from a low of just under 80 in 2022. Women lived for 84 years on average, while men averaged nearly 78 years. By region, life expectancy was highest in the capital Taipei while rural Taitung had the lowest. Compared with United Nations figures, Taiwanese men and women live longer than the global average of around 73.5.
