The environment ministry is hosting a series of public hearings on its draft "Climate Change Adaptation Action Plan," proposing a US$19 billion budget to prepare Taiwan for extreme weather impacts, including temperatures reaching 40°C, severe rainfall and droughts. The initiative coordinates 16 central government agencies and municipal authorities to bolster resilience across healthcare, energy grids and transportation. Priority is given to high-risk groups such as elderly residents, children, outdoor workers and rural communities. However, environmental groups like the Taiwan Climate Action Network warn that bureaucratic silos and vague performance metrics could undermine local implementation if funds are misallocated.
