Southern Taiwan Suffers Major Agricultural Losses From Typhoon Rain

Rain from the outer bands of Typhoon Mekkhala combined with a late monsoon brought flooding to many parts of Taiwan in late June. Southern Taiwan's Kaohsiung and Pingtung County were hit especially hard, with farmers reporting crop losses amounting to US$6.3 million. With assessments of damage ongoing, that figure is likely to rise.
