Taiwan’s economy ministry is responding to reports that US chipmaker Micron has suspended construction at a planned facility in Taoyuan. Bloomberg reported that the halt was linked to labor disputes between the company and local unions. In a statement, the ministry reaffirmed its support for Micron’s expansion in Taiwan and for agreements reached with labor unions, saying it hopes the parties can find a solution that benefits both sides. Micron, Taiwan’s largest foreign investor, had planned to invest up to US$4.5 billion in the project.
