The organizers of Hong Kong’s iconic June 4th vigil have voted to disband after the arrest of the group’s leaders. They organized the annual candlelight vigil marking the Tiananmen Square massacre of 1989. The group has been targeted by Hong Kong’s new national security police. Ryan Ho Kilpatrick spoke to modern China historian, Jeff Wasserstrom, to find out why the events of June 4, 1989, still mean so much to the people of Hong Kong.
