The Qing army pushes further into indigenous mountainous terrain. As the harsh terrain’s fever gets to the soldiers, many perish as they continue to lose strength and willpower. Tokitok confronts, then negotiates with the Qing army generals as brutal murders of the indigenous continue. Negotiations eventually break down while Tiap-moe becomes critically ill with the same illness that took away her mother. Charles Le Gendre then prays to the indigenous gods to ask them to cure Tiap-moe’s curse…
