Taoism is a multi-deity faith, the gods have their own origins and personalities, which is reflected directly in the sculpting of the deity image. For example, the body ratio of the Third Prince is heavy in the head, showing a living childlike appearance. Mazu will be shown with the image of a kind and amiable mother, Wang Ye is powerful and therefore has a more mighty figure. Yang Shi-Ming has learned the art of sculpting deities since middle school, now he has been in the Buddha statue industry for almost two decades. "When I began to learn, the most important thing I had to endure was solitude." After enduring a long period of solitude, we can see the light when we have perfected our profession. Although many of today's deities are made by Chinese factories, Master Yang still believes that a deity cut with only one knife is strong and unique, and has different meanings than machine-made ones. He believes that everyone is good in different fields, and if he can find his own style, he can keep his job steadily. His specialty is the extremely difficult restoration of the deity, especially the "antique imitation". The exquisite crafting is shown not only on the idols but also in the plaques and ornaments. Yang used the carving technique on plaques and ornaments, allowing the amazing craftsmanship to be seen by people outside of the faithful.
