The Man Who Restores Buildings and Lives in Them-Craftsoul Ep. 5
Lee Yih Shin is a restoration architect and a traditional painter based in Lukang, one of Taiwan’s earliest port city. While Lee himself grew up in a building with more than 200 years of history, it wasn’t until he became a reporter that he started to take interest in restoration. Through interviews, he gained the trust of the most skilled craftsmen, who then imparted their knowledge to Lee. While he takes an academic approach to restoration, he is not bounded by pedantry and always aims to make old buildings welcoming to the general public nowadays.
