Master blacksmith Chen Lung-rhan learned blacksmithing from his half-brother Lin Fon-moi when he was in junior high school. The two have run a workshop for more than 40 years, making it one of the oldest in Taiwan. After his brother died, Chen continued to serve their old customers. The small and cramped workshop filled with smoke from burning incense and illuminated by burning coal is where the magic happens. Today, this workshop that has witnessed the rise and fall of Chen’s hometown continues to serve its customers after Chen’s son has taken on the mantle.
