The Netherlands has joined the US-led Pax Silica alliance, but disagreements remain over how aggressively allies should restrict China's access to AI chip technology and semiconductor equipment.
Pax Silica Alliance Expands
REPORTER:
The Netherlands is pushing back against a proposed US bill that would force allies to tighten export controls on China. Ahead of a US-led Pax Silica event this week, the Netherlands is raising concerns.
Pax Silica is a US-led alliance aimed at coordinating AI supply chains away from China.
The US bill would make it harder for Chinese firms to make advanced AI chips by requiring allies to match tough US restrictions. The Netherlands has already agreed to restrict Dutch company ASML from selling advanced chipmaking tools to China.
Dutch Trade Minister Sjoerd Sjoerdsma warned the act could give the US control over Dutch national security decisions. He made the comments while in Washington, where the Netherlands formally joined Pax Silica.
