Israel and Hezbollah have renewed their ceasefire following a deadly escalation in Lebanon that threatened to derail Middle East peace talks. The first round of US-Iran follow-up talks scheduled to begin in Switzerland on Friday were called off after more than 50 people were killed in an exchange of strikes in Lebanon.

Israel and Hezbollah have agreed to renew their ceasefire after another round of deadly violence in Lebanon threatened to derail Middle East peace talks.
US-Iran talks scheduled for Friday in Switzerland were called off after Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah exchanged strikes, killing more than 50 people. Negotiators from the US, Iran and Qatar helped broker this latest ceasefire. Media reports say Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff is in Switzerland and may open the next round of talks in place of the expected US lead negotiator, Vice President JD Vance.

While the US and Iran had agreed to a memorandum of understanding earlier this week looking to end the regional conflict, Iran-backed proxy group Hezbollah and Israel continued fighting each other. US-Iran talks scheduled for Friday in Switzerland were cancelled as violence continued in Lebanon. Negotiators from the US, Iran, and Qatar helped broker this latest ceasefire.
