Former Arcadia, California Mayor Pleads Guilty To China Agent Charges
Former Arcadia mayor Eileen Wang has pleaded guilty to acting as an illegal agent of the Chinese government. Wang, a Chinese American politician, stepped down as mayor of the southern California city earlier this month after being charged with acting as an unauthorized foreign agent. Prosecutors say Wang and her then-fiancé promoted pro-Beijing content on a website at the direction of Chinese officials between 2020 and 2022. The case is the latest US prosecution involving alleged foreign influence activities linked to China. Wang now faces a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
