Israel's cabinet has approved a US-brokered plan that calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the return of Israeli hostages, a step that set off celebrations across the enclave and relief among families of captives. The deal foresees the release of about 2,000 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for hostages and lets UN agencies boost aid flows. US officials plan a small troop deployment to support stabilization, while analysts say deep political issues remain and caution that a lasting peace is far from certain.
