Taiwan Lauds Closer Philippines Ties Amid China Tensions

Taiwan’s representative office in Manila held a National Day celebration on Thursday, highlighting closer ties with the Philippines and calling for greater cooperation on shared security challenges, including China's growing assertiveness. The two sides are also exploring expanded cooperation in tourism, technology and people-to-people exchanges.

Taiwan has celebrated its national day in the Philippines with an event in Manila.

As Taiwan's closest neighbor, the Philippines is one of the most important partners of Taiwan in the region. Our geographic proximity also means we have to share geopolitical instability as well. Our big neighbor, China's aggressive maneuvers towards Taiwan Strait, South China Sea and westward in sea have increased exponentially over recent years.

Representative Wallace Minn-Gan Chow also remarked on expanding links in tourism, trade, education, and technology, including AI. The Manila celebration came ahead of Taiwan’s official National Day celebrations on Saturday.
