Most Americans Support Taiwan Security
A new survey shows that at least two-thirds of Americans believe Taiwan’s security is crucial to US interests.
The survey, released on Monday by the US-based Reagan Institute, shows that 66% of Americans overall see the US and Taiwan’s economy and security tied together—that includes 62% of democrats and 72% of republicans. The majority of respondents were concerned about a Chinese takeover of Taiwan and Chinese military expansion. Respondents also worried about China’s theft of US technology and its ability to monitor US citizens. The flow of Chinese fentanyl into the country was also a major concern.

Majority of Americans Support Taiwan
A majority of Americans believe Taiwan’s security and prosperity are tied to that of the United States.
That comes from the most recent 2026 Summer Survey by the Reagan Institute. The report found that China and Taiwan were a source of bipartisan concern and agreement, with 66% of Americans overall believing the two countries economy and security to be linked.
While domestic issues, like the flow of Chinese fentanyl into the US, topped the list of concerns, around 75% of overall Americans also worry about a potential takeover of Taiwan, and China's military buildup.
The report concludes that, contrary to fears of the US backing away from its foreign policy goals, no issue unites Americans across party lines like China and Taiwan.
