There has been concern recently that the Washington's reported denial of President Lai Ching-te's request to stop over in New York on the way to visit Latin American allies may signal a softening of U.S. policy towards China. Alex Gray, former chief of staff of the U.S. National Security Council during U.S. President Donald Trump's first term, pushes back at that notion, arguing Trump's China policy has remained consistent from his first term.
