Taiwan Awaits U.S. Semiconductor Investigation After Being Hit With 20% Tariffs

The White House has announced a 20 percent tariff on most Taiwanese exports, down from the 32 percent rate floated in April but higher than the 15 percent applied to Japan and South Korea. President Lai Ching-te says the move is temporary and that Taipei and Washington are very close to announcing a comprehensive trade deal. Yet uncertainty persists: a separate Section 232 probe could impose sector-specific duties on semiconductors and other high-value electronics within two weeks.
