Coast Guard Says China Using Fire on Taiwan Boat for Political Purposes
The case of a Taiwanese fishing boat that caught fire at sea is a new point in cross-strait tensions. China says its coast guard helped put out the fire and search for missing people. Taiwan's coast guard says the stricken boat's crew were rescued by another Taiwanese boat in the area and that China is using the fire for political purposes by asserting its claim over Taiwan and saying that Taiwanese ships are Chinese. The Taiwanese captain of the boat remains missing.
