Taiwan Officials, Scholars Rebuke Beijing’s Latest Taiwan Claims
Taiwan officials and scholars are pushing back against Beijing’s latest claims over Taiwan made during China’s Two Sessions. Mainland Affairs Council Deputy Minister Shen Yu-chung said Beijing should face the “objective reality” that the Republic of China (Taiwan) still exists, after Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Taiwan has never been and will never become a separate country. Taiwanese officials also warned that China’s pressure campaign, including military drills, diplomatic isolation and overseas targeting of Taiwanese people, is continuing to expand.
